Almost 12% of Australian children fall below the poverty line. They don’t need to.
Imagine...an Australia where all children are safe, healthy, well-fed, educated and happy. If all children had everything they needed to thrive and grow, chances are they would make a better world for future generations. Let’s make it our goal to create this kind of Australia.
Save the Children Australia works in impoverished remote, rural and urban communities in Australia – where conditions can resemble parts of the developing world. Despite Australia’s wealth and high standard of living, many children are still consistently denied access to opportunities that could enable them to reach their potential.
By providing early childhood development, literacy, physical activity, and nutrition programming we can give all Australian children a chance at a brighter future. Click on each of the images above to read more about child protection, health and education.
As an Imagine supporter you are making Australian children’s dreams a reality.
The first meeting of our branch was held back in Feb. 1958!
The meetings always began with the singing of the National Anthem followed by Declaration of Geneva.During the early years money was raised by street collections and the stall sales of knitting goods and second hand clothing.
Other successful fund raisers included film nights and markets stall. Schools became very much involved and the children even held stalls during the school holidays.Brownies and Guides participated and wonderful assistance from Narre Warren North Friendship group also boosted finances.Right from the beginning sponsorships were given , in particular to aboriginal children.
Our branch also sponsored a Korean family for six years as well as other overseas children duringthe eighties and nineties. Use was made of a caravan provided by the local Council to sell goods and we also participated in the Lions’ Club Op shop, sharing the takings with them.
Today we have 12 members who work very hard in difficult times to continue to raising money for disadvantaged children both locally and overseas. The main sources of fund raising are various raffles and the sale of “Lucky Dips”.We are always seeking ways of supplementing our funds and are very grateful for donations or ideas to.
Our work is to assist children in need- THEY NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GIVE-
Reiki is a natural form of healing therapy. It is applied through non-invasive gentle touch. This form of therapy aims to increase energy levels and promote relaxation and wellbeing.
The underlying philosophy of reiki is that if a person’s ‘life force energy’ is low, they are more likely to be unwell or stressed. If it is high, however, they are more capable of being happy and feeling well. Reiki will not cure illnesses or disease but it may help your body to heal itself. Reiki can do no harm.
Reiki is not a religion; there is nothing you have to believe in to use or receive reiki.
History of reiki
The literal translation of reiki, from the Japanese is ‘spiritual energy’. This form of ‘hands-on healing’ has been around for many centuries and is common in many different cultures. Reiki is believed to have been developed in Japan by Mikao Usui, a Tendai Buddhist monk, at the beginning of the 20th century. An American-born woman called Hawayo Takata brought the system of reiki to the West in 1938.
Reiki aims to release the body’s energy flow
Reiki aims to release the body’s energy flow. Practitioners explain this by comparing the body’s energy to a river. Our energy should flow easily down through the body. Occasionally a pebble, or even a rock, will fall into that river and make the flow of the water a little more difficult. These pebbles are human worries, fears and anger. Each pebble builds on top of the other. Soon there is only a trickle of water running in that once free-flowing river.
At this point, stress or physical pain may be felt. A reiki treatment aims to help the body release its own energy.
How it is used
Reiki can contribute to a person’s wellbeing by making them feel:
Relaxed
Peaceful
More energetic.
The procedure
In general, a reiki procedure will involve the following:
You will be asked to lie on a couch or sit in a chair.
The practitioner places their hands on or just above your body in sequences of positions.
Unlike massage, a reiki treatment does not involve any form of physical manipulation.
You do not need to remove any clothing and no private parts of your body are touched.
During a treatment you may feel warmth or cold, a tingling sensation, slight twitching or a rumbling tummy, or you may feel absolutely nothing.
A complete reiki session can last from 60 to 90 minutes.
The reiki practitioner
A professional practitioner is someone who has generally completed at least the second level of a reiki course and is insured as such. A professional reiki practitioner should also have:
First-aid skills
Basic counselling skills
Basic knowledge of physiology and anatomy
Membership of a professional organisation.
Most countries have professional reiki associations that practitioners can join. These associations will have a set of standards of practice and codes of ethics that practitioners must abide by.
The best way to find a reiki practitioner is by referral from friends or you can contact the various reiki associations. Many of these have a directory of referred practitioners who meet the required criteria for professional practitioners.
Reiki in the community
Reiki is a complementary therapy. In Australia, it is currently being provided in many hospitals, nursing homes, palliative care hospices and community service settings. The system of reiki works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to support the relief of side effects, reduce pain and promote wellness.
General cautions
Reiki is not a treatment for illness or disease. Some reiki practitioners claim they can heal serious diseases, such as cancer. This may prompt a person with cancer to abandon medically proven treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Always be guided by your doctor or specialist. Treat as suspect any reiki practitioner who advises you to abandon your conventional medical treatment.

Things to remember
Reiki is a natural form of healing therapy, which uses non-invasive gentle touch to promote feelings of wellbeing.
Do not be afraid to question the practitioner’s credentials, training and professional association membership.
Do not trust any therapist who says they can heal serious illness or asks you to abandon other treatments.
Flower essences are infusions of blossoms in spring water, preserved with brandy. They are ingested by placing drops under the tongue several times per day or diluted in a glass of pure water or hot tea and sipped slowly.
How do they work?
Flower essences represent one of the most dynamic healing resources available on the planet. They work on vibrational levels effecting subtle, deep change on the soul and psyche. They carry life-force energy from the flower to our body's energy channels, working with the subtle anatomy, acting as catalysts to rebalance us spiritually, emotionally, psychologically, and physically. The essences go in on where we need realignment and encourage the self-healing that is needed. One cannot overdose on flower essences.Perhaps one of the most potent abilities of flower essences is in the prevention of latent disease or illnesses through putting us more in touch with our Higher Self. By bringing our imbalances and stuck energy patterns to the surface through self awareness, we can create better health in us.
The human energy system.
On the simplest level, a human body is a biomechanical and biochemical masterpiece. Beyond the physical is a complex web of multi-dimensional, etheric energy systems. These include the chakras, meridians, subtle bodies, personality, and polarities that are all connected with universal consciousness through our spirit and soul forces. Flower essence therapy is the only ingestible healing medium capable of interfacing with this entire complex system.First of all, essences are most beneficial for those who are already in a conscious healing process. You can't expect flower essences to be cure-alls or to instantly fix you, especially if you are not mindful. Also, you are not likely to experience a big "hit" from ingesting them. It will take from a few days to a few weeks for you to notice the subtle shifts taking place from deep within your being. You may notice a new attitude, feeling, or perspective, an ability to face a situation with more resolve, an alleviation of symptoms, more energy and vitality, or any number of nuances from your own personal state of affairs. If you are taking an essence that your body doesn't need there will be any effect whatsoever.
How long should I take them?
Unless stated otherwise on the bottle, once started, the dosage bottles are meant to be finished. It will take at least that long (approx. 4-6 weeks) for them to affect the desired vibrational shift. Some essences/formulas will take at least six months or longer to accomplish their task with your subtle anatomy. Liken it to a slow-growing root that eventually dislodges a giant boulder. Some formulas can be taken indefinitely or at intervals (i.e. Immune Boost, Insomnia, Crisis/Trauma, Anxiety/Panic Attack, Jet Lag/Travel).Using your intuition to self-adjust your dosage and frequency is totally permissible and absolutely encouraged. It may or may not be wise to be taking more than two formulas concurrently. The major concern is not the number of essences you take but the synergy of the essences you are taking.
Kuan Yin
Worshipped by perhaps more devotees than any other goddess ever known, the most beloved of all Chinese deities, Kuan Yin, is usually depicted pouring healing waters from a vase to ease the physical and spiritual distress of her devotees. Kuan Yin is the "divine mother", Bodhisattva of Compassion, and "she who hears the cries of the world." Quan Yin is a person who has reached divine enlightenment and is entitled to enter Nirvana, but refuses, choosing instead to be reborn until all creatures have entered Nirvana.. Unlike many other Buddhist traditions, Tibetan buddhism allows for a pantheon of gods. Since there was no room in this pantheon for goddesses, the Chinese, unwillingly to give up their beloved mother figure goddess, transformed Avalokiteswara into Quan Yin--the ever-reincarnating divine being.
Ironically, the Chinese believe that Quan Yin refuses to incarnate as a man--choosing to be continually reborn as a female until all her children have reached enlightenment. She is a virgin goddess, dedicated to selfless serving, hearing the cries of all living beings in the throes of earthly samsara, and refusing to enter final bliss until all creatures are freed from ignorance and rebirth. To this day, Quan Yin is one of the world's most beloved goddesses, and vast numbers of monuments and altars, both ancient and modern are dedicated to her throughout the world.
Browsing through the internet l came across a very interesting article about Reiki. It talks about the energy medicine reiki generates. Here is a snapshot....
Q: Many Reiki practitioners feel that Reiki energy enters the system through the heart and travels down the arms to the hands. Can you give us a scientifically-based hypothesis describing how Reiki energies might be generated?
A: Based on this information, one possible hypothesis is that when a Reiki practitioner begins giving Reiki, feelings of compassion, love, and other healing feelings are created in the heart. These feelings modify the electrical energies of the heart, which travel through the nerves and especially through the electrically conductive vascular system into the hands, where they create healing biofields that are induced into the client.
We warmly invite you to a nurturing Reiki Share day where we may all give and receive Reiki.Come along and enjoy the warmth and connection of being in community.
