This is my June 1996 dance recital. I was 13 years old and in Jazz 5. The song was Pat Benetar`s "Promises in the Dark," which was a great song. My teacher said we were supposed to do either Michael Jackson`s "bad" or another Pat Benetar song "Love is a Battlefield," but she chose this one, and it was a great choice.
This is what I affectionately refer to as "the rope dance," and boy did we have fun this year - not just on stage with the ropes, but back stage, where we played rounds of Uno with one of the Ballet classes my Jazz class was roommates with that year. We had quite a competition going on during the times between our routine and finale!
I have dark brown hair and bangs in this show, and my hair is in a high ponytail - I`m the third person in the left line during the slow part. In the final pose, I`m in the group the camera gets a close-up first (I`m on the left - holding my rope and standing up).
By the way, there is a practically silent moment of this song where Pat Benetar yells "1 2 3 4" - you can`t hear it, so my teacher had us do it instead - how cool is that?
