February means carnival month for people all over Peru. This video shows the carnival celebrations that take place in the city of Ayacucho in the heart of the Peruvian Andes. The city streets become wild with dancers, singers, floats and other traditional performers, the festivities also spreading to the nearby city of Huanta. If you get the chance to visit Huanta, make sure you check out the traditional market where locals trade their agricultural produce. As you will see from the video, Ayacucho and Huanta are fantastic cities to visit, especially during carnival time – don’t miss them!
